Mars Hill, N.C.----The Mars Hill College Lions scored with 2:41 remaining in regulation Friday night, winning a 3-2 thriller over visiting Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. The Lions improve to 3-5 overall and 3-2 in the SAC, while Wingate falls to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Felipe Ferraro scored the lone goal of the first half, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead 15:25 into the match, with
Gregg Munn registering the assist on the play.
Wingate tied the match 7:40 into the second half, when sophomore midfielder
Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England) tucked one inside the post from 20 yards out to tie the match 1-1.
Cody Foreman gave the Lions the lead back less than five minutes later, scoring from 35 yards out to make it 2-1.
Senior midfielder
Gui Andrade (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tied the contest in the 61st minute, scoring his second goal of the season on a penalty kick to make it 2-2.
Serge Kebbeh netted the game winner with just under three minutes remaining in the contest, heading one in off a corner kick from
Jack Donaldson to give the Lions a 3-2 victory.
Wingate out-shot Mars Hill 15-9 on the night, with the Lions holding a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Chris Mitchell had three saves for Mars Hill, while junior
Sanjit Kang (Mississauga, Canada) had three saves for the Bulldogs.
Wingate returns to action Wednesday, traveling Coker for a 7:30 p.m. start.
