Wingate, N.C.----The 12th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs scored a pair of first half goals Thursday night en route to a 3-0 victory over the visiting Barton College Bulldogs in NCAA Division II men's soccer action. Wingate improves to 1-0 on the season, while the visiting Bulldogs fall to 0-1.

Wingate wasted no time getting on the board in the 2013 season, with sophomore midfielder Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England) scoring 1:58 into the opening half to put the Bulldogs on top. Sophomore defender Cameron Burrows (Cary, N.C.) had the assist on the play.

The 'Dogs took a two-goal lead 20:44 into the opening half when sophomore midfielder Liam Gillesphey (Newcastle, England) scored on a free kick from 35 yards out, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead heading to halftime.

The Bulldogs needed only 22 seconds to find the back of the net in the second half, with sophomore forward James Card (Newcastle, England) ripping a line drive into the back of the net to make the final margin 3-0.

Wingate out-shot the visiting Barton Bulldogs 21-7 on the night, holding an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal. Wingate junior forward Peron Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) had a match-high fives shots on goal. Junior Daniel DeGraff (Statesville, N.C.) had three saves to preserve the shutout for Wingate. Senior Vasily Yakimkin (Astrakhan, Russia) collected five saves for Barton.

Wingate returns to action next Wednesday, Sept. 11, hosting UNC Pembroke at 7 p.m. Barton will host Catawba Saturday at 7 p.m.
