Wingate returns home Wednesday to host Queens at 8 p.m.

Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs will look to halt a three-game losing streak Wednesday night when they host the Royals of Queens University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. Wingate enters the contest 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the SAC. Free HD video will be available for the game, along with live stats.

After opening the season with a one-point loss, the Bulldogs reeled off eight consecutive wins to move to 8-1 on the season. Wingate also started SAC play 5-0, notching four double-digit victories to go along with an overtime win at Anderson. The Bulldogs also registered an overtime victory at Johnson C. Smith during the winning streak.

The 'Dogs moved to 5-0 in SAC play with an 80-63 win at Mars Hill in December, getting 23 points and 12 rebounds from freshman forward Isiah Cureton (Waxhaw, N.C.). Junior guard Ryan Daye (Burlington, N.C.) poured in 33 points to lead Wingate to the overtime win at JC Smith, while senior center Deion Turman (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 29 points and 16 boards. Wingate's eighth straight win came at home, cruising past Barber-Scotia 92-63, getting 17 points from redshirt freshman Terrill Hilliard (Rocky Mount, N.C.).

The winning streak came to an end in January when Carson-Newman knocked off the Bulldogs 80-72 in Cuddy Arena, despite 20 points from freshman Josh Dominguez (Matthews, N.C.) and 19 points from Daye. Wingate dropped a tough two-point game at Lenoir-Rhyne last Wednesday despite and 18-point, 14-rebound performance from Turman. Wingate fell 81-67 at No. 15 LMU Saturday night, with Turman contributing 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Daye leads the Bulldogs and ranks sixth in the SAC with 19.2 points per game, shooting 38.8 percent from three-point range. Turman is averaging 14.0 points per game, leading the SAC with 11.0 rebounds per game and eight double-doubles.

Dominguez is scoring 10.7 points per game for the Bulldogs, shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 40.5 percent from three-point range. Sophomore guard Xavier Griffin (Marshville, N.C.) is scoring 8.5 points per contest, leading the 'Dogs with 3.8 assists per game. Cureton is scoring 7.8 points per game, adding 6.7 rebounds per contest while ranking fifth in the league with 1.8 steals per game. Senior forward Jeff Parker (Madison, N.C.) is third in the SAC with 2.1 blocks per game.

Queens is 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the SAC. The Bulldogs and Royals played met in the season opener in 2012-13, with Wingate prevailing 65-52 at home, getting 11 points from Daye.

The Royals have won four straight games, with three of those victories coming in SAC play. Queens defeated Carson-Newman 75-68 at home on Saturday, getting 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists from Jarrett Stokes. Josh Clyburn added 15 points and five boards for the Royals. Stokes is fifth in the SAC with 19.5 points per game, ranking second in the league in free throw percentage (89.7 percent). Clyburn is averaging 14.1 points per contest, while Nkosi Ali contributes 12.6 points and 9.0 boards per game. Brent Evans is compiling 12.3 points per game, while ranking third in the SAC 9.1 rebounds per contest.
