#8 Bulldogs win 3-0 at Queens for 49th straight SAC win

Charlotte, N.C.----The eighth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs hit .341 for the match Tuesday night en route to a 3-0 victory at Queens University in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action. Wingate won by scores of 25-10, 25-18 and 25-15 to improve to 19-1 overall and 12-0 in the SAC. The 'Dogs have won 13 straight matches this season and 49 consecutive SAC contests dating back to 2012. Queens falls to 5-15 overall and 2-10 in the conference.

Sophomore middle blocker Abby Saehler (Iowa City, Iowa) had eight kills and two blocks to lead the Wingate attack, hitting .357. Senior outside hitter Susie Murach (Burke, Va.) and junior right-side hitter Shelly Stumpff (Iowa City, Iowa) each added seven kills in two sets of action, while freshman outside hitter Katie Bludau (Seabrook, Texas) hit .400 with six kills in two sets. Redshirt senior setter Alison Cooke (Davidson, N.C.) handed out 23 assists in two sets of action, while freshman libero Kori Adams (Ayden, N.C.) had 11 digs.

"We are proud of playing so well again tonight," head coach Shelton Collier says. "We were able to use several lineup combinations and it was rewarding to have so many players show some of the progress they have made in an important conference match."

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the opening set, getting three Stumpff kills and two Murach kills. Wingate added a 7-0 run to take a 20-6 advantage. Murach had four kills and a block in the flurry. A Saehler kill made it 24-10, while a Queens error capped the set.

A Katie Schoenrock kill and Wingate error gave the Royals a 10-6 lead in the second set, but the Bulldogs grabbed the lead by scoring the next eight points. Saehler had two kills in the spurt, while Cooke added an ace. Kills from Saehler, Stumpff and Bludau put the 'Dogs on top 19-12. The Bulldogs took the set on back-to-back Queens errors.

The Bulldogs used a 7-0 run to take a 13-6 lead in set three. Saehler had two kills and a block in the spurt. A kill from senior middle blocker Lexi Potter (North Liberty, Iowa) made it 16-8, while a 5-0 run pushed the advantage to 21-10. Potter contributed a kill and four blocks in the flurry. A Bludau kill, along with a pair of Haley Henderson (Santa Fe, Texas) kills made it 24-14, while a Queens error capped the match.

Wingate had 40 kills and 11 errors in 85 attacks on the night to hit .341. The Royals had 15 kills and 20 errors in 83 attacks, hitting -.060. Potter's four blocks were a match high, while Henderson added three. Cooke had a team-best two aces on the night.

The Bulldogs are back in action Friday, traveling to Queens for a 7 p.m. match.
