Montevallo, Ala.----The Wingate University men's cross country team finished ninth (out of 16 teams) at the Falcon Classic Saturday. Host the University of Montevallo is also the site of the 2014 and 2016 NCAA Division II Southeast Region men's and women's cross country meets (men's 8K results, women's 6K results).

Three Bulldogs finished in the top 40 of the 129-person race. Redshirt freshman Anthony Gaudin (Orleans, France) was 35th with an 8K time of 27:55.70. Sophomores Nepolian Patel (Rocky Mount, N.C.) and Alex Craig (Lenoir, N.C.) were 37th (28:03.80) and 39th (28:06.50), respectively.

Wingate junior Mike Hering (Englewood, Fla.) was 47th with an 8K time of 28:24.80. "I felt our top four men ran really well today," Wingate head men's cross country coach Joe Soehnlen says. "We are still in need of someone closing the gap between the fourth and the fifth runners…once someone steps up, then we'll be a markedly better team."

Next Saturday, Wingate will host the Bulldog Stampede at the WU Cross Country Facility. The men's 8K race will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the women's 5K to follow at 10:15 a.m. The Bulldog Stampede is part of the University's homecoming festivities.
