Charlie Machell (Newcastle, England) registered his second hat trick of the year Wednesday night, leading the 18th-ranked Bulldogs to a 4-0 victory at Queens University in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. Wingate improves to 10-2-1 overall and 7-1-1 in the SAC, while the Royals fall to 3-11 overall and 3-6 in the SAC.
Machell is the first player in the conference to reach double figures in goals the season. He is the league leader with 10 goals and 23 points. Freshman midfielder
Damian Goana (Santiago, Chile) had three assists on the night for the Bulldogs, who run their unbeaten streak to nine matches, compiling an 8-0-1 record during the streak.
Machell got the scoring started in the 39th minute, giving Wingate a 1-0 lead heading to halftime on Goana's first assist of the night.
Machell wasted no time adding to his total in the second half, scoring an unassisted goal 47 seconds after intermission to give the 'Dogs a 2-0 lead.
Wingate took a 3-0 lead just three minutes later when junior midfielder
Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England) scored his fifth goal of the year on Goana's second assist of the night.
Machell finished his hat trick with 17 minutes remaining in regulation, with Goana notching his third assist of the night on the play.
Machell had a hat trick in Wingate's second game of the season, a 4-1 win against Emmanuel. The sophomore has 15 career goals and four career multi-goal contests.
