Anderson, S.C.----The 18th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs saw their nine-match unbeaten streak come to an end Saturday afternoon, losing 3-0 at Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. The Trojans improve to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the SAC, while Wingate falls to 10-3-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the conference.
After a scoreless first half, the Trojans got on the board in the 50th minute when
Aaron Roberson scored on a set play off a free kick, with
Magnus Larsen and
Alexander Beck collecting assists on the play.
Anderson took a 2-0 lead 12 minutes later when
Andre Carle netted his sixth goal of the year on a
Ryo Ogawa assist.
Martin Brain's goal six minutes later made the final margin 3-0, with
Hodaka Yonezawa assisting on the final goal of the afternoon.
Anderson outshot Wingate 12-3 on the night, holding a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Stephen Banick (Pickerington, Ohio) had six saves for the Bulldogs, while
Bo Haug had one save for Anderson.
The Bulldogs are back in action next Saturday, wrapping up the regular season at home against Lincoln Memorial at 3:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
