Charlotte, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs notched their seventh consecutive shutout Wednesday afternoon, prevailing 2-0 at Queens University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action. The Bulldogs improve to 8-2-3 overall and 7-1-1 in the SAC. Queens falls to 6-7-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the conference.
Wingate pushes its unbeaten streak to eight with Wednesday's win. The Bulldogs have now gone over 700 minutes without allowing a goal. During Wingate's eight-match unbeaten streak, the 'Dogs have outscored opponents 29-1.
Sophomore forward
Brooke Howell (Charlotte, N.C.) got the scoring started 10 minutes into the second half, netting her team-best 12th goal to make it 1-0. Howell is now tied for the SAC lead in goals, ranking third in points.
Senior All-American
Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.) scored with seven minutes remaining to make the final margin 2-0. Freshman defender
Mackenzie Cherniuk (Massillon, Ohio) assisted on the play. Montgomery now ranks third in the conference with 11 goals and second with 27 points. The two-time SAC Female Athlete of the Year is now tied for fifth in SAC history with 62 career goals.
Wingate finished the night with an 11-2 advantage in shots, including a 3-0 edge in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Ashlyn Hardie (Summerfield, N.C.) got the win for the Bulldogs.
Emily Mager made one save for the Royals.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, traveling to Anderson for a 1 p.m. start.
