Newberry, S.C.----The Newberry College football team recovered from a Wingate University pick-six to start the game, compiling 342 yards total offense en route to a 33-10 South Atlantic Conference victory over the visiting Bulldogs Saturday night at Setzler Field. The Wolves defense held Wingate to 140 yards, including only 25 on the ground.
Newberry improves to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the SAC. Wingate is 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the SAC. The Bulldogs return home Saturday to host Catawba for a 1:30 p.m. Church Youth Day contest. The Wolves visit Tusculum the same day for a 2:30 p.m. tilt.

Smith contributed a 36-yard field goal on Wingate's first drive of the second half, but the Bulldogs would not score again. Newberry enhanced its scoring portfolio with a fumble recovery for a touchdown, a safety and a Clark field goal.
