Brevard, N.C.----Wingate University freshman attack Kaelin Evans (San Marcos, Calif.) recorded a season-high five goals to lead the Bulldogs to a 22-7 South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse victory over Brevard College Saturday afternoon at the Brevard Lacrosse Field. The triumph is Wingate's first SAC victory in the program's history.

The Bulldogs outscored the BC Tornados 9-0 in the second half. Wingate improves to 2-2 overall and 1-2 in the SAC. Brevard falls to 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the SAC. The Bulldogs host Queens University of Charlotte Saturday, March 22 at 1 p.m. The Brevard Tornados start a five-game road swing Wednesday, visiting the University of Mount Olive for a 4 p.m. tilt.

"We did a good job with the second half draw controls," Wingate head coach Caline Olmsted says. "We were able to step up our defensive pressure after halftime. In the first half, we did a good job with scoring goals in transition and getting good opportunities at the eight-meter line."

Freshman attacks Allie Holland (Ocala, Fla.) and Alexus Hess (Emmitsburg, Md.) and freshman midfields Morgan Insel (Plantation, Fla.) and Laura Swanson (Plantation, Fla.) had three goals each for the Bulldogs. Freshman midfield Jamila Brown (Raleigh, N.C.), freshman midfield Julia Gasston (Auckland, New Zealand) and freshman midfield Emily Medvedeff (Fairport, N.Y.) tallied two goals each for the host Tornados.

Medvedeff scored the game's first goal at the 27:14 mark. Wingate answered with a 7-1 run to take a 7-2 lead on an Evans goal with 17:30 remaining in the first half. Both Evans and Holland scored two goals each in the 7-1 flurry.

The Tornados rallied to cut the deficit to 13-7 at intermission. Wingate shut the door, as the Bulldogs did not allow Brevard to score after the break. Eight different Bulldogs scored goals Saturday.

Wingate had the advantage in shots 39-17 and ground balls 24-14. Bulldog freshman goalie Jayda Lynch (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) played 60 minutes. She had seven saves.
