Bulldogs fall 3-0 at Lenoir-Rhyne in conference opener

Hickory, N.C.----The Lenoir-Rhyne University Bears picked up a 3-0 victory against visiting Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action Saturday night. The Bears improve to 2-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the SAC, while Wingate falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

LRU senior Ben jones got the scoring started 14 minutes into the contest, with DeJean Charlton collecting the assist on the play. LRU took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Leon Mueller-Wiesen netted the second goal of the night seven minutes into the second half. Simen Ryer had the assist on the goal that put the bears on top 2-0.

Lenoir-Rhyne took a 3-0 lead seven minutes later when Eric Elder netted his second goal of the season on an assist from Mueller-Wiesen.

Wingate held a 16-9 edge in shot during the match, while each team had five shots on goal. Sophomore Charlie Machell (Newcastle, England) registered a match-high six shots for Wingate, while junior Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England) had two shots on goal for the Bulldogs.  Jorge Hernandez had five saves for the Bears, while sophomore Stephen Banick (Pickerington, Ohio) had two saves for the Bulldogs.

Wingate is back in action Wednesday traveling to Catawba for a 7:30 match.
