Eighth-ranked Wingate remains unbeaten with 2-0 victory against Brevard

Wingate, N.C.----The eighth-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs picked up their eighth consecutive victory Monday night, defeating visiting Brevard College 2-0 in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. Wingate improves to 10-0-2 overall and 7-0 in the SAC, while the Tornados fall to 3-7-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the conference.

Wingate got on the board in the 22nd minute, with senior midfielder Shaun Gadsby (Newcastle, England) scoring his fourth goal of the year. The All-SAC and All-Region midfielder took a pass from inside the box from Aksel Juul (Newcastle, England) which was deflected by a defender right to Gadsby, who lined one home to put the Bulldogs on top.

Wingate held a 1-0 lead at halftime, holding a 12-2 advantage in shots and an 8-2 edge in shots on goal.

The Bulldogs added to their lead with four minutes remaining in regulation. All-American forward Charlie Machell (Newcastle, England) took a pass from Gadsby around the top of the box and ripped one over the keeper, netting his sixth goal of the season to make it 2-0.

Wingate dominated the action on the night, holding a 26-2 advantage in shots, which included a 13-2 edge in shots on goal. Freshman Pablo Jara (Santiago, Chile) had two saves to preserve the Wingate shutout. Heath Turner piled up 11 saves for the Tornados. Juul took a match-high seven shots on the night, including four shots on goal.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday, traveling to Lander to face the 25th-ranked Bearcats at 7 p.m.
