Wingate, N.C.----The 11th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs picked up their 10th win of the year Monday night, defeating visiting Brevard College 3-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action. Wingate improves to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the SAC, while Brevard falls to 3-6-1 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The Bulldogs got on the board 21 minutes into the opening half. Freshman forward
Kimmi Moore (Hubert, N.C.) scored her team-best fourth goal of the year, working a perfect give and go in the top of the box with senior
Victoria Fichman (Matthews, N.C.).
Wingate took a two-goal lead in the 32nd minute, when junior
Kaitlyn Brunworth (Littleton, Colo.) served one towards the top right corner of the box to freshman
Sophie Jendrzejczyk (St. Charles, Ill.). With the Brevard keeper coming out towards the ball, the freshman chipped one over her head, scoring her third goal of the year to make it 2-0.
Freshman forward
Gabby Fleischli (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) capped the scoring with 13 minutes remaining in regulation. She took a pass from Jendrzejczyk and beat the keeper inside the far post, netting her second goal of the year to make it 3-0.
Wingate outshot Brevard 24-3 on the night, with an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore
Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) had one save to preserve the shutout for the Bulldogs.
Jocelyn Springer collected eight saves for the Tornados. Moore registered a match-high five shots on the night, including four shots on goal.
The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday, traveling to UNC Pembroke for a 5 p.m. match.Â
