Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University women's lacrosse team won the first overtime game in school history Wednesday, taking a 16-15 double overtime decision over Lees-McRae at the Irwin Belk Track Complex turf field on the Wingate campus. Freshman attack
Jaclyn Chiesa (Canton, Ga.) scored the game-winner for Wingate in the first overtime. The contest was the season opener for both teams. Wingate (1-0 overall) hosts SCAD Savannah Saturday at 1 p.m. Lees-McRae continues its South Atlantic Conference tour Saturday, visiting Coker for a 1 p.m. contest.

Brittany Andrews (Bel Air, Md.) had three goals, while sophomore attack
Logan Bounds (Salisbury, Md.) posted two goals and dished out a game-high five assists. Three Wingate players had two goals each: Chisea, sophomore attack

Peyton LeCompte (Carolina Beach, N.C.) had six goals for the Bobcats. Freshman midfield
Casey Reagan (Midlothian, Va.) had four goals, while freshman attack/midfield
Tiffany Laster (Jupiter, Fla.) had three tallies.

Wingate led 14-12 when Nosek scored an unassisted goal with 12:18 remaining in the second half. LeCompte went to work for the Bobcats, scoring three unanswered goals to give the visitors a 15-14 edge with 6:27 left. Bounds found Swanson for the game-tying goal with 2:36 to play, setting the stage for free lacrosse.

Chiesa scored the game-winner 29 seconds into the first three-minute overtime frame. Wingate took three shots in extra time, while Lees-McRae managed only one shot attempt. The Bobcats made five turnovers in overtime (three in the first frame and two in the second stanza).

Bulldog freshman goalie
Nicole Hinkle (Fallston, Md.) picked up the victory in her Wingate debut. Hinkle played 66 of 66 minutes, allowing 15 goals and recording 14 saves. Lees-McRae junior goalie
Mia Emmerson (Orlando, Fla.) also went the distance, surrendering 16 goals and posting 15 saves.
