Wingate, N.C.----The Chestnut Hill College men's lacrosse team scored the first four goals of the game and never relinquished the lead en route to a 17-9 NCAA Division II victory over Wingate University Wednesday afternoon at the Irwin Belk Track Complex turf field. The Griffins are 1-1 overall, while Wingate is 0-3 overall.
Chestnut Hill junior attack
George Markey (Branchburg, N.J.) led the Griffins with three goals and three assists. CHC junior attack
Tanner Fisher (Port Coquitiam, B.C.) posted four goals and one assist, while freshman attack
Dylan Klusaritz (Slatington, Pa.) had three goals and one assist.
For the host Bulldogs, sophomore attack
Austin Murphy (Orillia, Ontario) had two goals and three assists. WU senior midfield
Cory Schumacher (Gainesville, Va.) recorded three goals and one assist. Junior attack
Ryan Vogrig (Vancouver, B.C.) and sophomore attack
Tanner Kotch (Butler, Pa.) had two goals each for the hosts.
The Griffins started the contest on a 4-0 run, taking the four-goal lead on a Klusaritz score from a Fisher assist with 9:30 to play in the first quarter. Klusaritz had two of the four goals. Wingate rallied, as Kotch scored back-to-back goals to put the Bulldogs on the board. Murphy scored an unassisted man-up goal to make the score 4-3 Chestnut Hill with 2:56 to go in the opening frame.
Markey and junior defense
Derick Darnulc (Baldwin, N.Y.) concluded the quarter with one goal each to give the visitors a 6-3 advantage. After Chestnut Hill scored to start the second quarter, Vogrig (12:12) and Murphy (7:02) tallied goals for the Bulldogs to cut the deficit to 7-5. CHC freshman attack
Caleb Gaeng (Crofton, Md.) scored the final goal of the half to give the visitors an 8-5 lead at intermission.
Schumacher scored an unassisted goal to start the third quarter (11:53) to pull Wingate within two scores for the final time. The Griffins answered with a 5-1 run to take a 13-7 lead on an unassisted goal by junior attack
Michael Plaia (Hicksville, N.Y.) with 5:18 remaining in the third quarter. Fisher had two of the five goals in the game-changing run.
Chestnut Hill outshot Wingate 44-34. The Griffins held a slim 49-45 advantage in ground balls. CHC won 18 of the 28 face-offs with freshman midfield
Brian Sinex (Holmes, Pa.) claiming 16 victories in 23 face-off attempts. Both teams converted one extra-man opportunity in six EMO attempts.

Thomas McDermott (Holmes, Pa.) earned his first victory of the season. He allowed nine goals with 12 saves. Bulldog sophomore goalie
Jacob Ormerod (Lake Mary, Fla.) took the loss. In 40 minutes, he surrendered 13 goals and posted 11 saves. Wingate freshman goalie
Will Sheridan (Woodstock, Ga.) finished between the pipes. He gave up four goals and posted two saves.
