Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Wingate outlasts Lincoln Memorial 10-9 in SAC action Sunday afternoon

Wingate, N.C.----For the second straight day, the Wingate University men's lacrosse utilized a balanced scoring attack to claim a South Atlantic Conference triumph. On Sunday, eight different players scored a goal as the Bulldogs survived 10-9 over Lincoln Memorial University at the Irwin Belk Track Complex turf field.

Wingate remains undefeated in league play with three victories in three tries; the Bulldogs are 3-4 overall. The LMU Railsplitters are 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the SAC. The LMU-WU contest was originally scheduled for Harrogate, Tenn., but the two teams agreed to a venue change due to weather-related field concerns.

Wingate junior attack Ryan Vogrig (Vancouver, B.C.) and sophomore attack Tanner Kotch (Butler, Pa.) both recorded four points with identical stat ledgers of one goal and three assists each. Bulldog senior midfield Zak Goings (Haymarket, Va.) and freshman attack Jeremy Sullivan (Crofton, Md.) scored two goals each for the hosts.

For the visiting Railsplitters, freshman attack Dylan Neisler (Detroit, Mich.) had five goals. LMU freshman midfield Adam Golia (Victoria, B.C.) had three assists, while junior midfield Ronny Paulino (Copiague, N.Y.) tallied two goals.

"Both teams played hard," Wingate head men's lacrosse coach Michael Lawson says. "Somehow, we found a way to hold on (for the victory)."

Wingate freshman midfield James Thatcher (East Patchogue, N.Y.) had another big day in the face-off X, as he won 18-of-23 face-offs. He led the Bulldogs in ground balls for the second day in a row with his nine pick-ups, helping Wingate win the GB battle 48-35. WU sophomore goalie Jacob Ormerod (Lake Mary, Fla.) collected his second triumph in as many days, allowing nine goals while posting 12 saves.
