New Orleans, La.----The
U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has named All-Region honorees for the 2015 Division II outdoor track & field season. Twelve Wingate men have been honored 15 times by the nation's coaches. Bulldog senior sprinter
Cole Henderson (Elon, N.C.) leads the way with three All-Region distinctions.
"I am very proud of our USTFCCCA All-Region selections," Wingate assistant track and field coach
Travis LeFlore says. "Cole Henderson collected three All-Region awards after earning four trophies his junior season. These men illustrated a great work ethic this season, which rubbed off on their teammates. We are happy for them for this recognition."
Henderson is the Wingate school record holder in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash with times of 10.44 and 20.96, respectively. Henderson is the 2015 SAC Champion in the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He was a member of the 2015 SAC gold medal 4x400 meter relay team (3:17.02). Henderson's 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash times are the top clocking in the Southeast Region this season.
Bulldog senior
Tyler Lee (Melbourne, Fla.) finds his name on the All-Region honor list for the fourth year in a row. As a senior, Lee receives All-Region laurels in the 400 meter hurdles and the 4x400 meter relay. His 400 meter hurdles time of 53.55 is third on the Southeast Region leader board.
Henderson and Lee are joined on the 4x400 meter relay All-Region team by senior
Corey Silvestri (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman
Jose Miguel Seiba Moris (Santiago, Chile). Silvestri picks up his second All-Region award, as he was honored following his junior campaign. Seiba Moris earns his first All-Region nod.
Wingate senior
George Williams (Fayetteville, N.C.) is a three-time All-Southeast Region performer in the men's high jump. He is the reigning South Atlantic Conference champion in the men's high jump with his 2.12 meter leap, the 10th best jump in the nation. Williams was an All-American during the indoor season in the men's high jump. He is Wingate's 2015 J. Howard Williams Award winner for Male Athlete of the Year.
Three Wingate sophomores are repeat performers on the All-Region team.
Travis McCuaig (Big Rapids, Mich.) matched Williams with his high jump of 2.12 meters. The 2.12 meter mark is the best jump in the region this season.
Travis McGriff (Rural Hall, N.C.) earns All-Region honors in the shot put after receiving All-Region distinction in the discus following his freshman campaign. His 13.95 meter shot put was the fifth-best mark in the Southeast Region this year.
Jalen Marlowe (Lowell, N.C.) is an All-Region choice in the hammer throw for the second straight year. His throw of 47.84 meters is the third-best mark in the region this season. Marlowe won the SAC men's hammer throw title with a toss of 44.15 meters.
Wingate senior
Najee Wise (Willingboro, N.J.) receives All-Region laurels in the hammer throw. Wise posted a 44.33 meter hammer throw in his final Bulldog campaign, good enough for fourth-best in the Southeast Region. Wingate's 2014 Homecoming King, Wise was fifth in the SAC hammer throw competition.
One junior, one sophomore and one freshman complete Wingate's All-Region list. Junior
Quinton Phifer (49.50 meters) and sophomore
Austin Greeson (48.25 meters) were second and third, respectively, in the men's javelin at the SAC championship meet. On the region charts, Greeson is first (52.95 meters) and Phifer is fourth (50.73 meters). Both student-athletes set these personal best marks at the recent Liberty Twilight meet. Greeson is the WU school-record holder in the javelin.
Freshman
Nathan Patterson (Mauldin, S.C.) receives his first All-Region award in the men's triple jump. Patterson had a big day at the Liberty event with his leap of 14.87 meters. His mark is the best Southeast Region triple jump this season and the 13th-best in the NCAA Division II.
The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions' top three relay teams. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season. Student-athletes must come from USTFCCCA member institutions.
The 2015 season will conclude May 21-23 in Allendale, Mich. at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. Grand Valley State University is hosting this year's national championship meet.
