Four Bulldogs earn All-State honors from NCCSIA

Greensboro, N.C.----Wingate University senior shortstop Alexis Burrell (Chesapeake, Va.), along with junior catcher Taylor Laskey (Cherryville, N.C.) and freshman outfielder Morgan Hendrix (Mocksville, N.C.) have been named first team All-State selections by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA). Junior right-hander Stacey Houser (Mooresville, N.C.) earns second team All-State accolades.

Burrell was named the 2015 SAC Player of the Year, while also earning first team All-Region honors from Daktronics and second team accolades from the NFCA. She earned honorable mention All-American honors from Daktronics. Wingate's all-time homerun leader, Burrell hit .387 in her senior season with 15 homers, eight doubles, three triples, 52 RBI and 36 runs scored. She had a .780 slugging percentage and .443 on-base percentage. Burrell ranked second in the SAC in homers, while ranking third in RBI and slugging percentage. She led the league in homers, RBI, slugging percentage and total bases in conference games, while ranking third with a .435 average. Burrell had a team-best 19 multi-hit games, while also leading the Bulldogs with 13 multi-RBI contests.

Burrell started her season with a double and three RBI in Wingate's win at eighth-ranked Armstrong State. She had a homer and four RBI at Erskine, while piling up two homers and five RBI against Belmont Abbey. Burrell homered in both games of the Mount Olive doubleheader, driving in five runs and scoring three times. She had a homer and two RBI at Columbus State, while collecting two homers, seven RBI and five runs scored in the doubleheader against Queens. Burrell homered in both games at Anderson, driving in three runs. She had five hits including a homer in the doubleheader sweep against Carson-Newman, scoring four times while driving in three runs. Burrell had a homer and three RBI in game two against Brevard, while adding a homer and two RBI against Catawba. Burrell had a homer, two RBI and four runs scored in the doubleheader sweep at LMU. She had two doubles and a triple in three SAC Tournament games for the Bulldogs.

Laskey earned All-SAC honors in her sophomore and junior seasons at Wingate, while also earning first team All-Region accolades in 2014. Laskey finished third on the team with a .353 average, hitting six homers and seven doubles while ranking second on the team with 40 RBI. She posted a .532 slugging percentage and team-best .466 on-base percentage. Laskey ranked fifth in the SAC in on-base percentage and eighth in RBI. She had 13 multi-hit games, while driving in multiple runs 11 times.

Laskey drove in four runs in the Erskine doubleheader, while driving in two and scoring twice in game two against Belmont Abbey. She was three-for-three with a homer and three RBI against UNC Pembroke, while hitting two homers in the GRU Augusta doubleheader. Laskey drove in four runs in the Queens doubleheader, while contributing a homer and five RBI against King. She had a double, homer and three RBI in game one against Carson-Newman, while driving in two runs and scoring twice in game one against Brevard. Laskey had four doubles and three RBI in the sweep at LMU in the regular season finale.

Hendrix earned second team All-SAC accolades in the outfield during her freshman season. She finished fourth on the team with a .350 average, adding four doubles and eight RBI while scoring 32 runs. Hendrix piled up 20 stolen bases in 21 attempts on the year, while leading the team with eight sacrifices. She also led all Wingate outfielders with five outfield assists this season. Hendrix led the SAC in stolen bases, ranking 12th in the league in hits and 13th in runs scored. She scored 17 runs in conference games, ranking sixth in the SAC.

Hendrix had three hits, two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI in the season-opening sweep at eighth-ranked Armstrong. She was three-for-five with two runs scored against Erskine, while collecting two hits, two RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored against Belmont Abbey. Hendrix piled up five hits in the UNC Pembroke doubleheader, while scoring three runs in the Queens doubleheader. She went five-for-seven with two runs scored and an RBI in the Mars Hill twinbill, while scoring both runs in the 2-0 win at Newberry. She had an RBI and two stolen bases against King, while collecting three hits and two stolen bases in game one at Coker. Hendrix had four hits and three runs scored in the Brevard doubleheader, while going two-for-four with an RBI, run scored and stolen base in the win at LMU.

Houser earned All-SAC honors for the third consecutive season in 2015. She was a first team all-conference and All-Region selection during her sophomore year. The junior was 19-14 on the season, giving her 69 career victories, tying the school's all-time record. Houser compiled a 2.19 ERA in 201 1/3 innings of work, piling up 96 strikeouts while compiling 24 complete games and eight shutouts to go along with three saves. Houser ranked second in the SAC in saves, third in wins, innings pitched and complete games while ranking seventh in ERA and strikeouts.

Houser started her season by tossing a complete game shutout at eighth-ranked Armstrong, while notching a save in the second game of the doubleheader. She picked up a win and a save against Erskine, allowing three runs in 12 innings. Houser did the same against Mount Olive, allowing two runs in 9 1/3 innings, striking out seven. She tossed a four-hit shutout at ninth-ranked North Georgia, while tossing a three-hit shutout against Palm Beach Atlantic. Houser notched a one-hit shutout at Tusculum, while striking out five in a three-hit shutout against Mars Hill. She struck out five in a complete game win at Lenoir-Rhyne, allowing just one run, while firing a two-hit shutout at Newberry. She allowed just one earned run in 10 innings against King to pick up both wins of the doubleheader. Houser tossed 10 shutout innings against Carson-Newman to notch a pair of wins against the conference champions. She threw an eight-inning three-hitter against Brevard, striking out four and allowing just one run. Houser allowed just one run in nine innings of work in the Bulldogs SAC Tournament win against Coker.

Founded in 2002, the NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
