Mars Hill, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs moved to 4-0 on the season Wednesday evening, prevailing 4-0 at Mars Hill University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Meares Stadium. The two-time defending SAC Tournament champion Bulldogs have outscored their opponents 11-3 this season. Mars Hill falls to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Wingate got on the board in the 17th minute, when a cross into the middle was deflected in by a Mars Hill defender. Four minutes later, freshman
Gabby Caliendo (Orlando, Fla.) headed home a pass from sophomore
Kaitlyn Fletcher (Jacksonville, N.C.) to make it 2-0.
The Bulldogs took a three-goal lead in the final minute of the opening half. Freshman
Kimmi Moore (Hubert, N.C.) forced a turnover in the MHU zone and netted her first career goal.
Wingate added some more insurance eight minutes into the second half. Sophomore
Taylor Leyble (Jacksonville, N.C.) took a cross from senior
Victoria Fichman (Matthews, N.C.) and found the back of the net for the second time this season, making it 4-0.
Wingate held a decisive 28-3 advantage in shots, with a 14-0 edge in shots on goal. The 'Dogs also had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore goalkeeper
Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) got the win for the Bulldogs.
Moslyn Greene registered seven saves for the Lions.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting Anderson at 5 p.m.Â
