New York, N.Y.----Wingate University All-American football alum
Kenwin Cummings was mentioned in the first paragraph of Steve Rushin's
Sports Illustrated column "Love Handles" in the magazine's NFL Preview issue (Sept. 7). A former defensive end for the Jets and Cowboys, Cummings is mentioned alongside retired Panthers running back
Nick Goings.
Â
Goings retired in 2008, while Cummings joined the league in 2009 (when the Jets signed him to the active roster), prompting Rushin to write: "America just missed the collision of Cummings and Goings, because Goings was going as Cummings was coming." Cummings saw action in the 2009 NFL play-offs for the Jets, before spending the 2010 season with the Dallas Cowboys.
Â
A graduate of Purnell Swett High School, Cummings was named to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-America second team in 2007. A two-time Hansen's All-America pick, Cummings was named to Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-America first team in 2005. Cummings was a Don Hansen's Football Gazette second team All-Southeast Region choice in 2007 after earning first team honors in 2005 and 2006. The South Atlantic Conference football coaches voted Cummings a first team All-SAC performer three seasons in a row.
