Jon Ander (Bilbao, Spain) scored in the 17th minute Saturday night, leading the sixth-ranked Bulldogs to a 1-0 victory at Brevard College in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action. Wingate improves to 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the conference, while the Tornados fall to 6-5-1 overall and 2-4 in the SAC.
Ander gave the Bulldogs an early lead with a goal 17 minutes into the opening half, finding the back of the net for the fifth time this year off a free kick to make it 1-0.
Wingate out-shot the Tornados 10-2 in the opening half, with a 7-1 edge in shots on goal.
The Bulldogs nearly took a two-goal lead with 16 minutes left in the second half, but a shot from sophomore forward
Nate Evans (Greenville, N.C.) hit the crossbar.
Wingate outshot the Tornados 17-7 on the night, with an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. Ander led all players with seven shots, including three shots on goal. Junior midfielder
Christian Szalay (Vienna, Austria) notched four shots on goal for the Bulldogs.

Pablo Jara (Santiago, Chile) collected three saves to preserve the shutout. Wingate now has five shutouts in nine games this year and has not allowed multiple goals in a game this season.
Heath Turner registered seven saves for Brevard.
Wingate is back in action Monday, stepping out of conference play to travel to Clayton State for a 6 p.m. start.
