#23 LMU uses balanced attack in 84-72 victory at Wingate

Wingate, N.C.----All five starters scored in double figures for the 23rd-ranked Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters Wednesday night en route to an 84-72 victory at Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. LMU improves to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Dorian Pinson had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead the LMU attack, going 11-of-16 at the free throw line. Luquon Choice had 19 points and four assists, knocking down six shots from three-point range, while Chris Perry scored all 16 of his points in the second half, going eight-of-10 from the field. Emanuel Terry had 13 points, 6 rebounds and five blocks, while Cornelius Taylor contributed 11 points, six assists and seven rebounds.

Junior guard Zeriq Lolar (Orlando, Fla.) had 20 points and seven rebounds to lead the Wingate attack, adding three assists while going three-for-five from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Mike Baez (Orlando, Fla.) also had 20 points, adding five boards and four steals while senior guard Anthanee Doyle (Holly Springs, N.C.) contributed 18 points and four rebounds, going four-for-five from three-point range.

Wingate jumped out to a 5-0 lead on a Baez three, but Lincoln Memorial countered with an 18-5 run, getting a pair of Choice threes to take an eight-point lead at the 13:49 mark. A Doyle three and Doyle four-point play got the 'Dogs within three at 20-17, but two more triples from Choice helped the Railsplitters stretch the advantage to double figures with 8:51 left in the half.

Two Lolar free throws got Wingate back within eight, but Lincoln Memorial used a 14-2 run to extend the advantage to 21. Pinson and Terry had four points each in the spurt. A Lolar four-point play got the Bulldogs within 16, while a free throw from Keith Griffin (Concord, N.C.) in the final second made the halftime deficit 44-29.

Threes from Doyle and Lolar got the Bulldogs within 11 less than four minutes into the second half, but a Perry layup pushed the lead back to 14. A jumper and two free throws from Baez got Wingate within 10 at 56-46, but another Perry bucket made it 59-46 with 13:15 to go. The Bulldogs scored the next seven points to get within six. Doyle started the flurry with a three-point play, while buckets from Baez and Lee McCall (Indian Land, S.C.) made it 59-53 at the 11:03 mark.

Back-to-back Perry layups, along with two free throws from Terry pushed the advantage back to 14 for LMU, but Doyle answered with a three to get the 'Dogs back within 11. A Perry layup and Taylor three pushed the lead back to 16, but buckets from Doyle and Griffin made it 74-62 at the 5:17 mark. Pinson knocked down a three with 3:38 remaining to give the Railsplitters a 17-point advantage. Wingate got no closer than 12 the rest of the way.

LMU shot 49 percent from the field, hitting 10-of-24 shots from three-point range (41.7 percent). Wingate shot 32.9 percent from the field, hitting 10-of-22 shots from beyond the arc. The Railsplitters held a 49-39 rebounding advantage, outscoring Wingate 36-20 in the paint. Each team scored 12 second-chance points, while Wingate converted 16 Lincoln Memorial turnovers into 13 points.

The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, hosting Brevard at 4 p.m.
