Marta Miscenko (Riga, Latvia) scored a career-high 16 points, leading the visiting Bulldogs to an 81-65 South Atlantic Conference women's basketball victory over the Carson-Newman University Eagles in Holt Fieldhouse Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs hit a season-best 60 percent of their field goals Saturday (30-of-50).

Wingate has won six consecutive games, boosting its record to 16-8 overall and 13-7 in the SAC. The Bulldogs sweep the season series with the road victory. Carson-Newman falls to 16-10 overall and 10-10 in the SAC. The Eagles have lost three in a row and five of their last six contests.

Four Bulldogs hit double-figure points. Freshman guard
Courtney Robinson (Taylors, S.C.) and junior guard
Shelby Tricoli (Waynesville, N.C.) had 15 points and 14 points, respectively, in support of Miscenko's 16 markers. Robinson dished out a team-high (tying) seven assists. Wingate senior center
Alysia Hudson (Jacksonville, N.C.) also hit a career-high with 10 points. Hudson hit five-of-seven field goals, while her post mate Miscenko converted five-of-five field goal tries.

Katie Stubblefield (Alcoa, Tenn.) led the hosts with 14 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard
Tatum Burstrom (Maryville, Tenn.) was two points shy of Stubblefield's effort with her 12 points. C-N sophomore forward/center

Amber Neely (Charlotte, N.C.) dished out seven assists each. "The guards did a terrific job of not only handling the press, but attacking for scores," Hancock says. "Every game is big this time of year, but this one was really important. Hopefully, we can continue to gain momentum down the stretch."

Caroline Averette (Midlothian, Va.) scored an inside basket (on an assist from Robinson) to give Wingate a 61-39 advantage with eight seconds left in the third quarter. The 22-point lead was Wingate's largest of the evening. Carson-Newman would get no closer than 13 points in the fourth frame.

Wingate's bench outscored Carson-Newman's substitutes 53-39. In addition to the 40 points scored by Miscenko, Tricoli and Hudson, Averette added nine (on three-of-three shooting from the floor) and junior forward
Kristina Rumplasch (Mount Airy, N.C.) contributed four points.

The Bulldogs had 44 points in the paint, compared to 22 inside points by the Eagles. Wingate shot 66.7 percent from the floor in the second half (16-of-24) to complete the game at 60 percent. The Bulldogs hit 53.8 percent of their tries in the opening 20 minutes (14-of-26), while the Eagles managed only 26.9 percent shooting in the first half (seven-of-26). Carson-Newman shot 35 percent for the game (21-of-60).

Wingate will conclude the 2016 regular season with back-to-back home games, starting with Catawba College Wednesday night in Cuddy Arena and Thomas Koontz Family Court. The tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. On the same day, Carson-Newman travels to Brevard College for a 6 p.m. start.
