Mars Hill rallies for 4-3 win over Wingate

Mars Hill, N.C.----The Mars Hill University Lions scored two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh Saturday afternoon, rallying for a 4-3 victory over visiting Wingate University in South Atlantic Conference baseball action. The Lions move to 12-4 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 8-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

Logan Conley had a double and two RBI to lead the Mars Hill attack. Evan Rogers had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored, while Dalton Eisenbath had two hits and a run scored.

Freshman catcher Andrew Llewellyn (Moseley, Va.) was two-for-four with a homer to lead the Wingate attack. All-American outfielder Shane Billings (Kernersville, N.C.) had two hits and two runs scored, while Colby Barnette (Monroe, N.C.) was one-for-three with an RBI.

Billings led off the game by drawing a walk, then moved to third on a Zach Little (Troutman, N.C.) single. Billings scored on a Bill Krebs (West Chester, Pa.) groundout to make it 1-0. Mars Hill tied it in the bottom of the first when Rogers drew a two-out walk, stole second, went to third on a balk, then scored on a balk.

Wingate took a 2-1 lead in the second when Llewellyn connected on his second homer of the year, a solo shot to left. Billings started the third with a double, then scored on a Barnette sacrifice fly to make it 3-1.

Rogers led off the sixth with a solo homer to get Mars Hill within one. Conley's RBI double later in the frame made it 3-3.

The Lions took the lead in the seventh when Eisenbath scored on a Conley sacrifice fly, making it 4-3.

Drayden Williams got the win, moving to 4-0. He tossed four shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out three. Sophomore left-hander Kory Behenna (Bahama, N.C.) took the loss, falling to 1-2. He allowed three earned runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out one and walking five.

The Bulldogs and Lions are back in action Sunday, playing a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
