Daniel Godwin (Greensboro, N.C.) scored the game-winner in the second overtime, lifting the visiting Bulldogs to a 7-6 South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse victory over Mars Hill University Saturday at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium on the MHU campus.

Robert Godwin (Greensboro, N.C.) tied the game with four seconds remaining (in regulation) to send the contest to extra time. With the win, Wingate improves to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the SAC. Four of the Bulldogs' five games this season have been decided by one goal. Mars Hill is 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the SAC.

The Bulldogs began the scoring with back-to-back tallies to take a 2-0 lead with 7:09 in the first half of play. The second goal was scored by freshman midfielder
Robbie Williams (Pequannock, N.J.), marking the first goal of his collegiate career. The Lions answered with three consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead going into the halftime break. The go-ahead score for MHU was netted by sophomore attack
Dima Ferriera (Abington, Va.), who led the Mars Hill offense with four tallies in the WU contest.

Jeremy Sullivan (Crofton, Md.) to give Wingate a 4-3 advantage with 9:25 in the third quarter. The Lions then took the lead on back-to-back goals of their own to make it a 5-4 contest with 6:30 remaining in the third quarter of play. WU then tied the game at 5-5 with 0:46 left in the third on a score from freshman midfielder

MHU gained a 6-5 advantage on Ferriera's fourth goal of the contest with 12:49 to play in the fourth quarter. The Lions maintained the one goal lead throughout the fourth quarter of play until Robert Godwin scored the game-tying tally with four seconds remaining in regulation. After a scoreless first overtime frame, the Bulldogs followed with the game-winner in the second overtime on Daniel Godwin's fifth goal of the season.

The Wingate University men's lacrosse team will be back in action on Wednesday, March 9 when they take on the Florida Southern College Mocs in Lakeland, Florida at 3 p.m. The Mars Hill Lions will travel to Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday March 12 to battle the nationally-ranked Royals with a 2 p.m. first face-off.
