Jefferson City, Tenn.----The seventh-ranked Carson-Newman University Eagles remained unbeaten on the season Saturday afternoon, edging No. 25 Wingate University 1-0 in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action. The Eagles improve to 11-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the SAC, while Wingate sees its seven-match winning streak come to an end, falling to 7-2 overall and 6-1 in league play.
The first half went scoreless, with the Eagles out-shooting the Bulldogs 5-1, including a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. Wingate's lone shot on goal came from junior
Kimmi Moore (Hubert, N.C.), but her effort was stopped by Carson-Newman keeper
Jacqueline Burns.
The Eagles got on the board two minutes into the second half, when a foul was called in the box. Carson-Newman was rewarded an indirect free kick in the box from six yards out and
Lara Hallgrimsdottir found the back of the net through the wall of Wingate defenders for her fourth goal of the season.
