Wingate spreads the wealth in dual meet victory over Catawba

Wingate, N.C.----Seven Wingate University student-athletes won two individual events each as the Bulldogs swept a Bluegrass Mountain Conference dual meet from Catawba College in the WU Natatorium Saturday afternoon (complete results). The number eight Wingate men won 177-65, while the number five Bulldog women claimed a 187-56 triumph.

Bulldog graduate student Alex Divelbiss (Pueblo, Colo.) had a huge day, winning two individual events and helping the number five Wingate women claim a relay gold medal as well. Divelbiss touched first in the 100 Breaststroke (1:05.08) and the 200 Backstroke (2:07.43). She swam the first leg as the Bulldogs concluded their day with a victory in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:39.91).

Men's recap
 
Wingate freshman Marco Farber Gonzalez (Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany) won both endurance events, touching first in the 1000 Freestyle (9:40.09) and the 500 Freestyle (4:48.13). Classmate and countryman Lukas Kraft (Steinheim, Germany) also won twice, taking the gold medal in the 200 Individual Medley (1:56.03) and the 100 Freestyle (46.29).
 
Interestingly enough, Kraft tied senior teammate Sebastian Holmberg (Njutanger, Sweden) in the 100 Freestyle. Holmberg also posted a time of 46.29. Earlier in the day, Holmberg won the 100 Breaststroke (57.34).

Wingate returns to the pool next weekend for a two-day dual meet with Queens University of Charlotte. The Bulldog women will host the Royals Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the Wingate University Natatorium. On Saturday morning, the Wingate men will travel to Queens for an 11 a.m. meet at the Levine Center.
