Moore leads the way as ‘Dogs advance to SAC Tourney semis for eighth straight year

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University junior midfielder Kimmi Moore (Hubert, N.C.) scored a pair of goals Tuesday night, leading the second-seeded Bulldogs to a 4-1 victory over seventh-seeded Catawba College in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament quarterfinals at Pride Park. Wingate improves to 10-3 overall, advancing to Friday's SAC Tournament semifinals to face Anderson at 7 p.m. Catawba ends its season at 7-10 overall.

Catawba got on the board first in the 20th minute when Becky Frost blasted one into the upper right corner from nearly 30 yards out, netting her fourth goal of the season.

Wingate tied it 10 minutes later, when junior Gabby Fleischli (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) found senior Taylor Leyble (Jacksonville, N.C.) in the box. The senior crossed one in front of the goal, where Moore was there to score her third goal of the year.

Moore struck again six minutes into the second half to put the Bulldogs on top. Freshman defender Kristin DeBiase (Deer Park, N.Y.) booted one from midfield towards the box, where Moore beat a pair of defenders off the bounce, then angled one into the net past the keeper to make it 2-1.

Wingate took a 3-1 lead less than two minutes later, when sophomore Taylor Krakower (Wayne, N.J.) took a feed from Fleischli just outside the top of the box and ripped one over the leaping keeper for her third goal of the season.

Leyble pushed the lead to three in the 64th minute, making a run on the right side and getting a feed from Krakower, then lining one into the opposite corner for her team-best sixth goal of the year to make it 4-1.

Wingate ended the night with an 18-14 advantage in shots, with each team taking eight shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) piled up seven saves for the Bulldogs, while Shelby Thompson had three saves for Catawba.

Wingate is onto the SAC Tournament semifinals for the eighth year in a row, facing Anderson at 7 p.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. The Bulldogs are looking to advance to the SAC title match for the eighth year in a row.
