Aiken, S.C.----The 15th-ranked USC Aiken Pacers jumped out to a 6-0 lead through four inning en route to a 6-1 victory over visiting Wingate University in NCAA Division II baseball action Friday night. The Pacers improve to 37-11 overall, while the Bulldogs end the season at 19-31.
Mitchell Price had a triple, three RBI and two runs scored to lead the USC Aiken attack.
Tyler Ammerman added a hit, RBI and run scored, while
Nile Goings and
Brian Parreira contributed an RBI each for the Pacers.
Sophomore catcher
Andrew Llewellyn (Moseley, Va.) had a double and an RBI to lead the Wingate offense. Sophomore infielder
Zach Little (Troutman, N.C.) added a hit and a run scored for the Bulldogs.
USC Aiken got on the board in the second on Ammerman's RBI single. Parreira's RBI groundout in the third gave the Pacers a 2-0 lead.
USC Aiken scored four runs in the third to take a six-run lead. Price's three-run triple started the scoring, while a Goings RBI groundout plated Price to make it 6-0.
Little drew a lead-off walk in the seventh, then scored on Llewellyn's RBI double to left center to make it 6-1.
Connor Riley got the win, moving to 5-2. He tossed five shutout innings, striking out eight while allowing three hits. Sophomore right-hander
Austin Turgeon (Athens, Ga.) took the loss, falling to 0-1. He allowed two runs on four hits in 2 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking two.
