Kimmi Moore (Hubert, N.C.) scored a pair of goals Wednesday afternoon, leading the Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory over visiting Queens University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action. Wingate improves to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SAC, while the Royals fall to 2-1-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.
The Bulldogs got on the board 12 minutes in, when a cross from freshman
Kat Stockford (Columbia, Md.) was placed perfectly in front of the net for Moore to head home for her first goal of the season.
Wingate added to its lead 12 minutes into the second half. Senior defender
Kaitlyn Fletcher (Jacksonville, N.C.) started it with a corner kick, which freshman
Carly Veit (Pinehurst, N.C.) re-directed towards Moore at the far post, who found the back of the net to give the 'Dogs a two-goal lead.
The Bulldogs out-shot the Royals 12-8 on the afternoon, with an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) collected five saves to preserve the shutout for Wingate.
Rachel Quest had eight saves for the Royals.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting Anderson at 5 p.m.
