Zickert nets winner as Bulldogs win third straight

Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University junior midfielder Colleen Zickert (Arlington Heights, Ill.) scored the game's lone goal in the 67th minute, leading the Bulldogs to a 1-0 victory over Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Pride Park. Wingate wins its third straight, moving to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the SAC. Anderson falls to 1-3-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

The first half went scoreless, with Wingate out-shooting the Trojans 5-2. Anderson had two shots on goal, compared to Wingate's one shot on target.

The Bulldogs got on the board 21 minutes into the second half. Junior midfielder Kimmi Moore (Hubert, N.C.) fired a shot from the right side of the box that was saved by Anderson goalkeeper Abby Helm, but the rebound went toward the middle of the box, where Zickert was there to net her first goal of the season.

Wingate nearly added to its lead later in the half, but a header from Moore hit the post.

The Bulldogs out-shot the Trojans 12-4 on the afternoon, with a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal. Wingate senior Taylor Leyble (Jacksonville, N.C.) led all players with four shots, including two shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) picked up her second straight shutout, collecting a pair of saves. Helm had four saves for Anderson.

Wingate is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Mars Hill for a 5 p.m. start.
