Wingate, N.C.----For the second time this week, Wingate University senior forward
Elma N'For (Yaoundé, Cameroon) had two goals and an assist, leading the Bulldogs to a 4-1 victory over Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer action at Pride Park. Wingate wins its third straight, moving to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the SAC. The Trojans fall to 3-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Anderson took the lead in the 15th minute when
Cameron Emerson took a cross from
Lars Kaula that was re-directed by
Thomas Joergsholm, lining one into the corner to give the Trojans a 1-0 edge.
Wingate tied it 13 minutes later when N'For scored his fifth goal of the year, getting a perfect pass from the top right corner of the box from senior
Vicente Munoz (Santiago, Chile) and finishing at the far post with a diving header.
N'For struck again less than two minutes later, stealing the ball from an Anderson defender, getting into the left side of the box, then ripping a shot into the opposite corner to give Wingate the lead.
The Bulldogs added some insurance in the 66th minute. N'For started the play with a pass from midfield up the left side to freshman
Mattia Ditommaso (Milan, Italy), who sent a cross into the box for
Elliot Cutts (London, England). The freshman scored his team-best seventh goal of the year to make it 3-1.
Wingate took a three-goal lead with 13 minutes remaining in regulation when junior
Jose Ojeda (Bogota, Colombia) sent a cross into senior
Christian Szalay (Vienna, Austria) who buried his first goal of the season to make the final margin 4-1.
Wingate out-shot Anderson 14-7 on the night, with a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. Senior
Felipe Checco (Brotas, Brazil) led all players with four shots. All-American goalkeeper
Pablo Jara (Santiago, Chile) had three saves for the Bulldogs.
Gal Elyashiv collected three saves for the Trojans.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Mars Hill for a 7 p.m. start.
