Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs picked up their sixth consecutive victory Saturday afternoon, prevailing 3-1 over visiting Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Pride Park. Wingate moves to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the SAC, while the Railsplitters fall to 5-5 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Senior forward
Taylor Leyble (Jacksonville, N.C.) got the scoring started 20 minutes into the opening half, taking a cross from junior midfielder
Gabby Fleischli (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and netting her team-best fourth goal of the year.
Wingate took a 2-0 lead 10 minutes later when freshman
Morgan Zanardi (Haverhill, Mass.) scored the first goal of her Bulldog career, ripping one into the upper right corner from the top of the box off a Leyble assist.
LMU got within a goal in the 66th minute when
Isa Jara headed home her first goal of the season off a
Jacquelyn Christoph free kick from just inside of midfield.
The Bulldogs regained a two-goal cushion in the 83rd minute. Junior midfielder
Colleen Zickert (Arlington Heights, Ill.) sent one into the box, where sophomore forward
Taylor Krakower (Wayne, N.J.) was there to line one into the left side of the net for her second goal of the year, making it 3-1.
Wingate outshot the Lincoln Memorial 13-6 on the afternoon, while LMU held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper
Alexis Jones (Midway Park, N.C.) piled up five saves for the Bulldogs, while Brooke Taylor had two saves for the Railsplitters.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Coker for a 7 p.m. start.
