HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter

Both teams shot the ball extremely well in the first quarter. Queens made 85.7 percent from the floor (six-of-seven), while Wingate converted 61.1 percent (11-of-18). Quick's inside hoop from a feed by senior guard Taylor Helms (Monroe, N.C.) gave the Bulldogs a 23-16 lead with two minutes left. The Royals scored the last four points of the quarter, as an Eanes' lay-up cut the hosts' deficit to 23-20.

Second quarter

Fittingly, Robinson started the 20-0 run with a jumper to make the score 33-26 Wingate with three minutes to go. The Bulldogs led 38-26 at intermission.

Third quarter

Five different players scored a hoop to start the second half. Witherspoon's follow shot made the score 49-26 Bulldogs four minutes into the frame. Wingate led 55-32 entering the last stanza.

Fourth Quarter

Freshman forward Teliyah Jeter (Greenville, S.C.) made back-to-back baskets (3:29, 2:59) to give Wingate a 76-38 lead. The 38-point margin was the Bulldogs' largest advantage of the evening.

TURNING POINT

Wingate's 20-0 run put the game out of reach.

NOTABLES

-Wingate senior guard Taziya Moody (Columbia, S.C.) and junior guard Caroline Averette (Midlothian, Va.) had nine points each.
-Helms made two-of-two from downtown as Wingate hit five-of-nine three-point field goals Wednesday.

QUOTABLES

Wingate head women's basketball coach Ann Hancock: "Every road win is very important. I was pleased with our team's effort. We did a nice job defensively, holding them to six points each in the second and third quarters. We also did a better job in the second half of playing without fouling. Jordan came in and did a nice job putting the ball in the basket. Taz was aggressive and made some plays which were big. It was also nice to get Courtney back on track."

NEXT ON THE AGENDA

Wingate hits the road again Saturday, visiting Anderson for a 2 p.m. contest. Queens rides up the mountain to face Mars Hill Saturday at the same time.
