Anderson, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had four players score in double figures Saturday afternoon, cruising to an 82-61 victory at Anderson University in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action. Wingate moves to 8-7 overall and 5-2 in the SAC, while the Trojans fall to 4-11 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Graduate student point guard
Kerigan Farley (Hickory, N.C.) notched his second career 20-point game, compiling 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Redshirt freshman center
Quantra Taylor (Indian Land, S.C.) had a career-high 12 points on five-of-five shooting from the field, while senior guard
Zeriq Lolar (Orlando, Fla.) added 11 points. Junior forward
Neico Robinson (Easley, S.C.) contributed 10 points and six boards, while junior guard
Marco Haskins (Fredericksburg, Va.) had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Gage Ellis had 11 points to lead the Anderson offense, with
Jeremy Bouton and
Josh Livingston adding nine points each.
A Bouton triple gave the Trojans an early 7-2 lead, but Wingate countered with a 15-5 run, taking a 17-12 lead on a Taylor dunk with 12 minutes left in the first half.
Jeremy Williams (Salem, Va.) knocked down a three a minute later to extend the advantage to six, but a Livingston three-point play got Anderson within a point at the 9:03 mark.
A Taylor layup helped Wingate push the lead back to five at 26-21, while a layup and dunk from Taylor put the 'Dogs on top by six with four minutes remaining in the opening half. A three from
Emarius Logan (Columbia, S.C.) put Wingate on top by double figures, while two Robinson free throws in the final minute helped the Bulldogs to a 41-30 halftime advantage.
Farley's three-point play in the opening minute of the second half pushed the lead to 14, but a
Rakish Taylor bucket got Anderson to within 10 with 16 minutes to go. The Bulldogs used an 11-2 run to take a 59-40 lead, getting four points from Robinson in the flurry, with
Charlie Hovasse (Colorado Springs, Colo.) capping the flurry with a triple at the 11:12 mark.
Boynton's layup with 6:25 left got Anderson within 13, but a Lolar triple made it 69-54 with 4:33 remaining. A Lolar jumper and Christian layup pushed the lead to 18, while a layup from
Chiamaka Browne (Syracuse, N.Y.) gave Wingate its largest lead of the day at 82-59.
The Bulldogs shot 48.2 percent from the field, hitting five-of-19 shots from three-point range (26.3 percent). Anderson shot 39 percent on the day, knocking down four-of-16 shots from beyond the arc (25 percent). Wingate held a 42-32 rebounding advantage and 44-28 edge in points in the paint. The 'Dogs also held a 16-9 advantage in second chance points.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday night, returning home to host Lenoir-Rhyne at 8 p.m.
