Wingate, N.C.----The 10th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs stayed perfect in league play Thursday afternoon, downing Lenoir-Rhyne University 6-3 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action. Wingate improves to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the SAC, while the Bears fall to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.
The nation's 15th-ranked doubles team of
Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.) and
Josh DuToit (Charlotte, N.C.) started the day with an 8-2 victory at number one doubles. Freshmen
Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) and
Enrico Giacomini (Vicenza, Italy) won 8-7 at three doubles to give the 'Dogs a 2-1 lead heading to singles play.
Belsito, ranked 13th in the nation, won 6-0, 6-4 at number one singles. Freshman
Josep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain) rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 victory at two singles, while Jones won 7-6, 6-2 at three singles. Giacomini prevailed 6-2, 6-2 at number four singles for the Bulldogs.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting No. 42 Tusculum at 1 p.m.
