Wingate, N.C.----The 24th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs scored 16 runs in Saturday afternoon's South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader, prevailing 11-4 and 5-3 over Carson-Newman University at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. Wingate improves to 28-9 overall and 13-5 in the SAC, while the Eagles fall to 19-15 overall and 11-7 in league play.
Game One: #24 Wingate 11, Carson-Newman 4
Junior catcher
Andrew Llewellyn (Moseley, Va.) was two-for-five with a homer and two runs scored to lead the Wingate offense in game one. Sophomore infielder
McCann Mellett (Charlotte, N.C.) added a hit and two RBI, while freshman outfielder
Justin Guy (Greensboro, N.C.) contributed an RBI and scored twice. Senior outfielder
Ty Andrus (Winston-Salem, N.C.) drove in a run and scored twice, while senior infielder
Brett Branton (Athens, Ga.) added a hit and two runs scored. Junior infielder
Tyler Schneider (Richland, Ind.) was two-for-four with a double and an RBI.
Brett Langhorne was two-for-five with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Carson-Newman offense.
Cade Snapp added three hits including a homer, while
Dom Leo was two-for-two with an RBI.
Wingate got on the board in the second, with Branton lining a two-out double down the right field line, then scoring on a double steal after a Guy single to make it 1-0. Snapp's solo homer in the top of the fourth made it 1-1.
The Bulldogs scored five times in the bottom of the fourth. Three straight walks loaded the bases, while Guy and Andrus drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks to give the 'Dogs a 3-1 advantage. Mellett's two-run single put Wingate on top by four, while Schneider's RBI double to left center made it 6-1.
The Bulldogs scored four more runs in the fifth. A single and error put runners on second and third, while another error allowed two runs to score. Another error made it 9-1, while
Tanner Forry (York, Pa.) drew a bases-loaded walk to give Wingate a nine-run advantage. Llewellyn connected on his fifth homer of the season in the sixth, a solo shot to left to make it 11-1.
Langhorne's two-run triple highlighted a three-run seventh for the Eagles, making the final margin 11-4.
Senior right-hander
Hunter Hamilton (Troy, N.C.) got the win, moving to 2-2 on the season. He allowed four runs (one earned) on nine hits in seven innings, striking out three and walking one. Sophomore

Jimmy Doolittle (Charlotte, N.C.) combined for two shutout innings in relief, striking out three.
Kyle Cagle took the loss, falling to 3-2. He allowed six runs on four hits in 3 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking six. The Eagles walked 10 batters in game one, while committing three errors.
Game Two: #24 Wingate 5, Carson-Newman 3
Mellett was two-for-three with a homer to lead the Wingate offense. Branton went two-for-three with a pair of RBI, while junior infielder
Zach Little (Troutman, N.C.) collected a hit and an RBI.
Langhorne had two homers to lead the CN offense, while
Micah Genter also drove in a run for the Eagles.
Langhorne led off the game with a solo homer to give Carson-Newman a 1-0 lead.
Wingate answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame. A Mellett single and two walks loaded the bases, with a wild pitch and Little RBI single giving the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead. Branton followed with a two-run single to make it 4-1.
Mellett connected on his second homer of the series and fourth of the season in the second inning, a solo shot to right to give the Bulldogs a 5-1 advantage.
Genter's RBI groundout in the fourth got Carson-Newman within two. Langhorne's second homer of the day made it 5-3 with one out in the top of the seventh. Wingate starter
Austin Turgeon (Athens, Ga.) followed by getting a groundout, but a two-out error ended his day one out shy of a second straight complete game.
Turgeon moves to 4-2 on the year, allowing two earned runs on four hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking three. The reigning SAC Pitcher of the Week has picked up a win on each of his three starts the last three weeks. Sophomore right-hander
Alex Rodriguez (Kannapolis, N.C.) struck out the lone batter he faced to notch his first save of the season.
Dalton Long took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits in 1 1/3 innings, walking four.
Wingate is back in action Tuesday, hosting Limestone at 6 p.m.
