Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University senior first baseman Mik
ayla Hannah (Lancaster, S.C.) had a homer, three doubles and seven RBI Saturday afternoon on Senior Day, leading the Bulldogs to a doubleheader sweep over visiting Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference softball action. Wingate won by scores of 6-5 and 9-1 to push its winning streak to six, moving to 20-24 overall and 8-8 in the SAC. The Railsplitters fall to 21-21 overall and 4-12 in league play. The 'Dogs have won four straight SAC games and five of their last six to move into a tie for fifth place in the league standings with four games remaining.
Game One: Wingate 6, Lincoln Memorial 5
Hannah was two-for-three with a homer to lead the Wingate attack, with sophomore infielder
Emma Swenson (Matthews, N.C.) also connecting on a homer. Sophomore pitcher
Aubrey Reep (Eastover, N.C.) drove in a pair of runs, while freshman infielder
Haley Cashwell (Autryville, N.C.) was two-for-four with a triple and two runs scored. Junior outfielder
Naomi Sapp (Guyton, Ga.) added a triple, RBI and run scored for the Bulldogs.
Teddi Collins had a homer and three RBI to lead the LMU attack in game one.
Emma Webb added a pair of RBI for the Railsplitters.
Wingate took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Cashwell led off the frame with a bunt single, then scored on Reep's RBI single down the right field line.
Lincoln Memorial scored twice in the third, taking a 2-1 lead on Webb's two-run single. The Bulldogs had the answer, scoring twice in the bottom of the frame to regain the advantage. Sapp ripped an RBI triple to right center to tie it, then scored on a Reep sacrifice fly to make it 3-2.
LMU scored three times in the sixth to take a two-run lead. A double and a walk put two runners on base for the pinch-hitter Collins, who connected on a three-run shot to center to give the Railsplitters a 5-3 advantage.
Wingate had the answer once again in the bottom of the frame, with Swenson and Hannah connecting on back-to-back homers to start the inning, tying the game 5-5.
LMU stranded a potential go-ahead run on second in the top of the seventh. Cashwell deposited a one-out triple down the right field line in the bottom of the seventh. Sapp and Reep were intentionally walked, bringing Swenson to the plate. The sophomore popped one up into shallow right center and the ball was dropped when two outfielders collided, allowing Cashwell to score the winning run.
Junior right-hander
Rachel Weidner (Greenville, N.C.) got the win, moving to 4-9. She tossed one shutout inning in relief, striking out one while allowing one hit.
Justice Smith took the loss, falling to 12-8. She allowed a run on a hit in 1 1/3 innings, striking out one and walking two.
Game Two: Wingate 9, Lincoln Memorial 1 (5 innings)
Hannah was three-for-three with three doubles and six RBI to lead the Wingate attack in game two. Sapp went two-for-three with an RBI and two runs scored, while Cashwell added two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Junior catcher
Taylor Wells (Chesterfield, Va.) also drove in a run in game two for the Bulldogs.
LMU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on

Wingate scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. A Sapp single and Reep walk put two on with two outs for Hannah, who ripped a two-run double to right center to put the 'Dogs on top 2-1.
The Bulldogs scored three times in the third to take a four-run lead. Singles from Reep and Swenson put two on base for Hannah, whose second double of the game was a line drive just inside the left field foul line, plating both runners to make it 4-1. Wells followed with an RBI single to push the Wingate lead to 5-1.
The Bulldogs added three more runs in the fifth inning. Singles from Cashwell and
Rebekah Woods (Sylvania, Ga.) put two on for Sapp, who started the scoring with an RBI single to left. Hannah came up three batters later and lined her third two-run double of the day in the gap in right center to make it 8-1.
Wingate finished it in the fifth. Freshman outfielder
Gracyn Polk (Concord, N.C.) started the inning with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, then scored the winner on Cashwell's RBI single.
Weidner notched her second win of the day and fifth of the season, tossing four shutout innings in relief, striking out one while allowing just one hit. Smith took the loss, allowing eight runs on 11 hits in four innings, striking out two and walking one.
Wingate is back in action Wednesday, traveling to Queens for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The Bulldogs were scheduled to host a doubleheader against Converse Sunday, but that game has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
