Aiken, S.C.----The 19th-ranked USC Aiken Pacers went 3-0 in doubles play Thursday afternoon en route to a 5-2 victory over No. 14 Wingate University in NCAA Division II men's tennis action. The Pacers improve to 11-5 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 12-5 on the season.
The Pacers won all three doubles matches, winning 8-4 at one and two doubles. Wingate's number three doubles team of freshmen
Matthew Jones (Shrewsbury, United Kingdom) and
Josep Canyadell (Lleida, Spain) dropped a tight 8-7 match at three singles.
Sophomore
Daniel Belsito (Charlotte, N.C.) won 7-6, 6-0 at number one singles for the Bulldogs. Canyadell added a 6-4, 6-3 victory at three singles, but the Pacers picked up wins at two and four singles to clinch the win.
Wingate is back in action Saturday, hosting Lincoln Memorial at 12 p.m.
