Aiken, S.C.----The 21st-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs pushed their winning streak to six Thursday afternoon, prevailing 5-1 at USC Aiken in NCAA Division II women's tennis action. The Bulldogs improve to 14-3 overall, while the Pacers fall to 9-7 on the season.
Wingate swept through doubles play Thursday afternoon, starting with an 8-5 victory at one doubles from senior
Maria Garcia (San Carlos, Venezuela) and sophomore
Michela Verpelli (Milan, Italy). Junior
Claudia De Andreis (Milan, Italy) teamed with freshman
Meredith Lee (Pottstown, Pa.) for an 8-5 win at two doubles, while senior
Oroma Womeodu (Memphis, Tenn.) and freshman
Chyi Lee (Taipei, Taiwan) prevailed 8-3 at three doubles for the Bulldogs.
Verpelli picked up a 6-3, 6-1 victory at number one singles, while Chyi Lee clinched the win by prevailing 6-3, 6-4 at three singles.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday, hosting Lincoln Memorial at 12 p.m.
