Wingate, N.C.--- The Wingate University Bulldogs out-rebounded visiting Johnson C. Smith University 57-33 Wednesday night, led by junior forward Teliyah Jeter's 18 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks to prevail 59-48 in Division II women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. The Bulldogs improve to 2-1 on the season, while the Golden Bulls suffer their first setback, falling to 2-1.

"Every win is a good win, and it's nice to win at home. Especially with such a young team, to get a win under our belt. We had some really big performances, Teliyah's was one of the best I've seen. She is fun to watch with her ability to block shots, get rebounds and she did a great job getting to the free-throw line and converting when she got there."

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 30.8 percent from the field on the day, JC Smith shot 29.5 percent
- The Golden Bulls shot 31 percent (five-for-16) from three-point range, the Bulldogs shot just nine percent from beyond the arc (one-for-nine)
- Wingate held a 57-33 rebounding advantage and 21-11 edge in second-chance points
- The 'Dogs held a commanding edge in points in the paint 34-16

FIRST QUARTER

- Four quick points for Clark had the game tied up at the 6:39 mark
- The 'Dogs would then go on a 13-0 run
- Ingram would start the scoring flurry with a layup for
- WU would also get buckets from Jeter and Troutman in the run
- In the final seconds of quarter Maiya Green drained a three to get JCSU within 10
- The Bulldogs held an 11-4 edge in second chance points in the first frame

SECOND QUARTER

- Clark's free throws gave WU the 25-10 lead two minutes in
- At the halfway mark Johnson C. Smith cut the margin to eight with back-to-back threes from Emani Clough
- With three seconds remaining Clark hit a free throw, giving Wingate a 10-point halftime edge
- Both teams scored 18 points in the second frame
- 12 of Wingate's 18 points came in the paint, the other six came from the charity stripe

THIRD QUARTER

- JCSU went on a 9-0 run to start the second half, capped by a Aubrianna Bonner layup at the 7:02 mark
- Wingate would answer with buckets from Clark and Jeter
- Destiny Coleman's jumper gave WU the 42-36 lead with 3:38 left in the quarter
- In the final 75 seconds of the frame the Bulldogs would drain four free throws to make it a 12-point game
- The Golden Bulls would get a layup from Aaliyah Bell as time expired

FOURTH QUARTER

- The 'Dogs got the first five points in the final 10 minutes of action
- A three-point play from Jeter would start the scoring
- Wingate held the JC Smith scoreless through the first four minutes of the quarter
- With 5:03 left to play a Kensey Ferguson layup cut into the Bulldog lead
- WU took the largest lead of the game with 4:20 remaining when Jeter's free throw made it 58-42
- The Golden Bulls got no closer than 11 the rest of the way
