‘Dogs push winning streak to three with 57-47 victory at Converse

Spartanburg, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs had three double-digit scorers Saturday afternoon, outscoring Converse College 34-18 in the second half en route to a 57-47 road victory in Division II women's basketball action in Hannah Gymnasium. The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Valkyries fall to 1-3 overall.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 40.4 percent from the field on the evening, Converse shot 32.6 percent
- The Valkyries shot 30 percent (seven-for-23) from three-point range
- Bulldogs shot 25 percent from beyond the arc (one-for-four)
- Wingate held a commanding 41-29 rebounding advantage
- WU held an assertive edge in points in the paint 28-14
- Each team turned the ball over 24 times
- The Bulldogs converted on 18-of-29 free throws while the Valkyries were 10-for-18 at the line

KEY BULLDOGS

Destiney Coleman had 16 points and five rebounds
Bryanna Troutman added 13 points, 10 boards, two blocks and two steals
Teliyah Jeter contributed 10 points, nine rebounds, and three steals
Elana Ingram had eight points and three boards

NOTES

- Wingate moves to 6-0 all-time against Converse
- WU is 4-0 when facing the Valkyries in Spartanburg
- This was the first meeting since 2006
- Troutman notches her third double-double in four games

FIRST QUARTER

- After the first four minutes of play it was tied 8-8,
- A Jasmine Stephens jumper tied it 8-8 four minutes in 
- With three minutes left in the frame, a Jeter layup gave the 'Dogs a four-point advantage
- Ingram's free throw with 10 seconds remaining gave the 'Dogs a 16-13 lead

SECOND QUARTER

- At the 7:02 mark a Stephens free throw for the Bulldogs would tie the game at 19
- With three minutes left in the frame, the Valkyries took the lead on a Brianna Jackson layup
- Converse held the lead through the end of the quarter, going into half leading 29-23
- The Valkyries' run was capped by a Sierra Davenport layup

THIRD QUARTER

- At the 8:46 mark a Dominque Hill three gave Converse a 12-point advantage
- Wingate closed the quarter with a 17-1 run
- Coleman had eight points in the spurt
- Troutman's layup at the buzzer put Wingate on top 40-36

FOURTH QUARTER

- Converse started the final 10 minutes with back-to-back made threes from Hill
- A pair of Jeter free-throws put WU on top 43-42 with 5:40 left to play
- At the halfway point a Troutman three gave the Bulldogs the lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the way
- The Wingate defense held the Valkyries without a field goal the final 5:26 of play
- Jeter's three point play with 50 seconds left made it 53-47
- Troutman and Clark went four-for-four at the line the final 15 seconds
