Jeter and Troutman lead Bulldogs past Braves

Wingate, N.C.--- The Wingate University had two Bulldogs notch double-doubles Wednesday night, rolling to a 60-41 victory over visiting UNC Pembroke in NCAA Division II women's basketball action in Cuddy Arena. The Bulldogs improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Braves fall to 3-2 overall.

KEY STATS

- Wingate shot 45.3 percent from the field on the evening, Pembroke shot 28.3 percent
- The Braves shot 31 percent (five-for-16) from three-point range, the Bulldogs shot 27 percent from beyond the arc (three-for-11)
- Wingate held a dominant 45-28 rebounding advantage
- The Bulldogs commanded the points in the paint 36-16
- Each team turned the ball over 16 times
- The Braves converted on six-of-10 free throws while the 'Dogs were nine-for-18 at the line

- Wingate moves to 15-3 all-time against UNC Pembroke

- Troutman notches her fourth double-double in five games
- Jeter's third double-double of the season and sixth career double-double

FIRST QUARTER

- The Braves jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, getting a basket from Melanie Horne at the 7:21 mark
- After the three scoreless minutes Troutman scored five straight to tie the game with 3:53 left in the quarter
- Jaia Wilson's layup with 10 seconds remaining made it a one-point game

SECOND QUARTER

- Wingate had a productive second quarter outscoring UNCP 21-10
- Troutman had the first two buckets of the frame  
- At the halfway mark the Bulldogs had held the Braves scoreless in the quarter
- A Stephens triple and a Jeter bucket gave WU the 26-12 lead
- UNC Pembroke went on an 8-2 run over the next two minutes
- An Ilene Hurley layup capped the scoring the frame, giving WU a 32-22 lead

THIRD QUARTER

- UNCP started the second half with back-to-back triples
- With just under seven minutes left in the frame a Jeter layup extended put the 'Dogs on top by eight
- At the half way mark Hannah Clark drained a three to make it 39-30
- a Horne jumper cut the Bulldog lead to six
- In the final seconds of the frame a Clark layup made it 44-36

FOURTH QUARTER

- The Bulldogs dominated the final 10 minutes, holding the Braves to just five points
- With 5:15 remaining a Jeter three-point play made it 52-39
- The Braves got their final bucket of the game with 4:05 left to play
- Wingate capped the scoring with a Coleman three with 47 seconds remaining
