‘Dogs place school-record 13 players on All-SAC teams; WU has league-best nine first team honorees

Rock Hill, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs piled up the awards Tuesday morning when the South Atlantic Conference announced the 2019 football award winners. The Bulldogs had a school-record 13 players earn all-conference accolades, including a league-high nine first team selections.

Running backs Nijere Peoples and Domineke McNeill earn first team honors, joined by wide receiver Jalen Brooks and offensive linemen Connor Baroniunas and Andrew Strickland. Quarterback Shaw Crocker and wide receiver BJ Muckelvene are second team all-conference honorees, with defensive end Cal Hanford and linebacker Elijah Gilmore earning second team All-SAC defensive honors.

The group has helped lead Wingate to a 10-1 season, the first 10-win season in program history. The Bulldogs have earned a bid to the NCAA Division II play-offs for the third straight season and will host an opening-round game Saturday.
