Box Score Chapel Hill, N.C.----The UNC Tar Heels converted 31 Wingate University turnovers into 35 points on the way to an 82-37 exhibition victory over the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at Carmichael Arena. UNC junior center Janelle Bailey (Charlotte, N.C.) had 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead four Tar Heels in double-figure scoring.
 
For Wingate, freshman forward Bryanna Troutman (Salisbury, N.C.) had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead the visitors. Sophomore guard Elana Ingram (Milton, N.C.) had nine points. The Bulldogs open regular season play Friday, facing Clayton State in the Peach Belt Conference/South Atlantic Conference Challenge at Anderson University. Game time is slated for 1:30 p.m.

"Playing UNC is a tremendous experience for our players and staff for many reasons. From a basketball perspective, it is a test of where we stand as far as being able to execute against bigger and faster defenders."
 
"We learned a lot today. We must be able to play without fouling. Our starting group spent a ton of time on the bench in foul trouble. In order for us to be successful, we will need to correct this quickly. Bryanna Troutman was aggressive on both ends of the floor and Elana Ingram stepped up and made some big baskets."

SECOND QUARTER

-Wingate freshman guard Hannah Clark hit a three-point field goal to make the score 20-16 UNC with eight minutes to play
-The Bulldogs would get no closer the rest of the way, as the Tar Heels built a 19-point advantage after the first 20 minutes
-Bailey had 12 first-half points, while senior guard Shayla Bennett added 10 markers
-Jeter led Wingate with four first-half points
 
THIRD QUARTER

-A Bennett three-point field goal put the hosts up 46-21 with seven minutes to go
-Bailey made an inside basket to make the score 54-24 with 2:40 left
-The Tar Heels led 61-24 entering the fourth quarter
 
FOURTH QUARTER
 
-UNC outscored Wingate 21-13 in the final 10 minutes
-Ingram had five points in the frame, including a three-point field goal
-Troutman also scored five points in the fourth quarter
