Wingate falls 3-2 at Francis Marion Tuesday

Florence, S.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs scored twice in the seventh inning to tie it, but Francis Marion University scored a run in the eighth en route to a 3-2 victory in NCAA Division II baseball action. The Patriots improve to 6-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 5-3 on the season.  
 
KEY STATS
 
- Wingate out-hit FMU 4-3 on the day
- Each team had one extra-base hit
- WU pitchers struck out five and walked six on the afternoon
- Francis Marion pitchers struck out nine and walked just one
- The Patriots left eight on base while the 'Dogs stranded three
 
KEY BULLDOGS
 
- Jed Bryant was one-for-three with an RBI and a double
- Hunter Dula also drove in a run
- Tyler Schneider and Andrew Llewellyn each had a hit and a run scored
- Ricky Clark went one-for-two while also drawing a walk
- Nick Stegman allowed two runs on one hit in 5 1/3 innings
- Sawyer Lee struck out two in a perfect inning of relief
- Dula worked one inning without allowing a hit, striking out one

THIRD INNING
 
- A pair of walks put two runners on base with two outs for FMU in the bottom of the third
- Gage Taylor's RBI double down the right field line put the Patriots on top 2-0
 
SEVENTH INNING
 
- Back-to-back singles from Schneider and Llewellyn put two on with one out
- Bryant got Wingate on the board with an RBI double down the left field line
- Dula's RBI groundout plated Llewellyn to tie it 2-2
- FMU had runners on first and third with no outs in the bottom of the frame
- Lee came in and got two strikeouts and a groundout to escape the jam
 
EIGHTH INNING

- Two hit batsman and a walk loaded the bases with no outs for Francis Marion
- After a strikeout, a Will Hardee sacrifice fly gave the Patriots a 3-2 lead

WRAPUP

- Warren Specht got the win with 1 2/3 shutout innings and a strikeout
- Patrick Orlando worked a perfect ninth for the save
- Adam Tulloch took the loss, allowing a run while walking one and hitting a batter
