Wingate University Bulldogs picked up their fourth consecutive doubleheader sweep Thursday afternoon, taking a pair of games against visiting North Greenville in NCAA Division II softball action. Wingate improves to 8-2 overall, while the Crusaders fall to 3-6 on the season.

GAME ONE | Wingate 6 North Greenville 2

KEY STATS


- Wingate out-hit North Greenville 8-4
- The Bulldogs had two of the three extra-base hits in game one
- The WU pitching staff registered 10 strikeouts compared to North Greenville's one
- The Crusaders left 12 on base while the 'Dogs stranded six runners

Jordan Floyd was two-for-three with a homer
Taylor Wells added a double and two RBI
Sammi Jo Loney went two-for-three
- Mary Claire Coyne was one-for-two with an RBI
Aubrey Reep went one-for-three at the plate and collected five strikeouts in the circle, notching a save
Rachel Weidner struck out five to pick up the win

FIRST INNING

- Molli Littlefield and Claire Gilmore walked to put runners on first and second for the Crusaders
- Sam Kicklighter doubled to plate Littlefield and give NGU the 1-0 lead

THIRD INNING

- Savannah Small and Kicklighter reached on errors; Jaelin Griffin got the RBI with a single to the pitcher
- Cone's RBI single in the bottom of the frame got the 'Dogs on the board
- Reep followed by driving home Haley Cashwell, while Sapp scored on an error to put WU on top 3-2
- Wells followed with a two-run double to center to put Wingate ahead by three

SIXTH INNING

- Floyd's solo shot down the left field line made it 6-2

WRAPUP

- Weidner moved to 4-1 on the year
- She allowed a run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking six
- Reep collected her first save of the season, striking out five in 2 1/3 innings of work
- Griffin took the loss, falling to 2-3, allowing six runs on eight hits in six innings

KEY STATS


- The 'Dogs out-hit the Crusaders 14-9
- NGU had all three extra-base hits
- Both teams stranded 12, and struck out four batters

KEY BULLDOGS

- Reep went two-for-three with a pair of RBI
- She had the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth
- Cashwell went three-for-five
- Wells was two-for-four with an RBI
- Coyne had two hits and scored twice
- Sapp added two hits and three runs scored

FIRST INNING

- Sapp walked followed by Coyne getting hit by a pitch
- Reep singled through the right side scoring Sapp to make it 1-0
- Alexa Sells reached on an error, scoring Coyne to give the 'Dogs the 2-0 lead

SECOND INNING

- Sapp scored when Sells was hit by a pitch
- A Wells RBI single plated Coyne to put the 'Dogs on top by four

THIRD INNING

- Brooklyn Stone reached on a single to right
- Gilmore's two-run shot to right got North Greenville within two at 4-2

FIFTH INNING

- A Kate Lee two-run double drove home Josie Reed and Grayce Black, tying it 4-4
EIGHTH INNING

- Sapp started the inning at second via the international tiebreaker rule
- Reep ripped a single to left center field, plating Sapp to end it

WRAPUP

- Weidner got the win to move to 5-1 on the year
- She allowed two runs on four hits in four innings, striking out two
Callie Richards took the loss, allowing five runs on 14 hits in 7 1/3 innings, striking out four

- Wingate travels to UNC Pembroke Friday for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
- The 'Dogs are scheduled to host Fayetteville State Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader
