Wingate, N.C.----Wingate University senior right-hander Austin Turgeon fired a nine-inning complete game to lead the Bulldogs to a 5-3 victory in the opener against Erskine College Friday afternoon in NCAA Division II baseball action, while Logan McNeely's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the 'Dogs a thrilling 5-4 victory in game two. The Bulldogs sweep the three-game series, moving to 8-3 overall while the Flying Fleet fall to 7-5 on the season. Wingate is a perfect 6-0 at Ron Christopher Stadium this season.  

GAME ONE | Wingate 5 Erskine 3

KEY STATS

- Wingate out-hit Erskine 8-5
- The Bulldogs had a triple and two homers; Erskine had a pair of doubles
- The 'Dogs struck out eight and walked one; Erskine struck out 12 and walked five
- Neither team committed an error

- Trevor Wood's two-run double tied it 2-2

- Guy was hit by a pitch, stole second, then scored on Schneider's sacrifice fly to put WU back on top

EIGHTH INNING

- Wood led off the frame with a single, then scored on Cole Warken's RBI single to make it 3-3
- Bryant led off the bottom of the frame with his fourth homer of the year, a solo shot to right to give Wingate a 4-3 lead
- Little followed with a triple to right, then scored on Guy's RBI single to make it 5-3

WRAPUP

- Turgeon needed just 104 pitches for his first career nine-inning complete game
- The senior retired the first 12 batters he faced
- He tied a career high with eight strikeouts, walking just one while allowing five hits
- Turgeon moves to 2-1 on the year
- Trey Watts took the loss, falling to 0-2
- He allowed two runs on three hits in an inning of work, striking out one

- Little ripped an RBI single through the middle to make it 4-3

SEVENTH INNING

- Schneider drew a lead-off walk, followed by a single from Guy
- McCann Mellett's sacrifice moved the runners to second and third, while Tanner Forry was intentionally walked
- A strikeout brought McNeely to the plate with the bases loaded, two outs and Wingate trailing by a run
- He lined a 2-2 pitch into left field, plating Schneider and Guy to give WU the walk-off win

WRAPUP

- Wildman got the win to move to 1-0 on the year
- He retired all six batters he faced, striking out two
- The Wingate bullpen allowed just two hits in four shutout innings, striking out five
- Graham McCurry took the loss, allowing two runs on one hit in the seventh
