Coyne drives in five as ‘Dogs take two at UNCP to push winning streak to 10

Pembroke, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs swept their fifth straight doubleheader Friday afternoon, taking two at UNC Pembroke in NCAA Division II softball action. Wingate won the opener 4-1, while prevailing 2-0 in game two to improve to 10-2 overall. The Braves fall to 6-8 on the season. Mary Claire Coyne piled up four hits and five RBI on the day, while Aubrey Reep fired a four-hit shutout in game two.

- Coyne followed with a two-run double to give Wingate a four-run lead
- Cara Davis connected on a solo homer in the bottom of the frame to make it 4-1

WRAPUP

- Weidner allowed a run on three hits in seven innings of work to get the win
- The senior struck out six without walking a batter to move to 6-1 on the year
- Weidner has three victories over the last two days for the Bulldogs
- She leads the league in wins and ranks second in strikeouts
- Malerie Leviner took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in seven innings, falling to 3-4

- Reep leads the league in strikeouts and ranks fourth in ERA
- Jordan Hall took the loss, falling to 3-3 after allowing two runs on eight hits in six innings
