Davidson rides strong singles play to rally past Wingate Saturday

Davidson, N.C.----The 11th-ranked Wingate University Bulldogs won the doubles point at NCAA Division I foe Davidson College Saturday afternoon, but the Wildcats responded by winning all six singles matches to prevail 6-1 in NCAA men's tennis action. Davidson improves to 6-2 overall, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-1 on the season

DOUBLES

- Wingate's number one doubles team of Daniel Belsito and Josep Canyadell won 6-3
- Enrico Giacomini and Duncan Addison teamed for a 6-1 victory at two doubles to clinch the doubles point for the 'Dogs
- WU took a 1-0 lead into singles play

SINGLES

- Belsito took set one at one singles, but Axel Fries rallied to take the final two sets 6-3 and 7-5
- Tolunay Sumer won set one 7-6 at three singles, but fell 6-0, 7-6 in the next two frames
- Matthew Jones dropped a pair of 6-4 sets at number two singles
- The Wildcats won in straight sets at four, five and six singles
